Due to Covid-19 the Computer is currently closed.
Check back here for an update on when
we will be reopening.
After the first lockdown our Computer Centre had reopened following a thorough risk assessment by our organisation’s Committee. All businesses and venues are required under health and safety legislation to follow the appropriate guidance for their sector, so that they can reopen safely. Certain measures were put in place at our Computer Centre for us to be able to work in a Covid–19 Secure way. These measures include a restructuring of the afternoon into two sessions and limiting the number of clients attending each session to enable 2m distance between clients while attending. Clients currently attend via a pre booked appointment for their session, avoiding any possibility of too many in the room at one time. PPE measures are in place and available and outside of the room, masks, hand gel and hand washing facilities. Also a protocol for entering and leaving the building for clients and a toilet use protocol. Computer centre Staff feel confident that these measures are as safe as they can be for our computer centre clients. These measures will be in place until the Government takes England out of Covid-19 Secure measures.
Due to the Covid-19 Secure measures affecting how we work with regard to our opening times, the sessions are slightly shorter. On a temporary basis our requested donation amount is £5.50. The afternoon sessions are 11.55am-1.55pm and 2.00pm-4.00pm. We respectfully request that clients do not arrive early as the Computer Centre, including entry and exit door handles, must be cleaned before, after and in between sessions.
We offer training at our Computer Centre for people over the age of 19 years with Cerebral Palsy or other onset physical disabilities. We offer accessible learning with a Tutor and support assistants in a very friendly atmosphere. Anyone wishing to attend can self refer, or referrals can be made by Health and Social Care agencies.
Courses are designed to meet the needs of individuals and one-to-one support is provided where needed. Equipment is available for those people who require special access to computers including switches, a rollerball mouse, a joystick mouse, headphones, enlarged keyboards and wide screen monitors.
If you think you might like to attend but are not sure if it is for you, come along and give it a try. Clients are adults of mixed ages and abilities. Many of our clients like to make a greetings card every week, many love to type. Some of our clients are working on improving their literacy skills, what they all share is a learning journey, friendship and understanding. No one is judged on their abilities, you will have time and be given the support you need to learn something you enjoy. If it’s learning how to check your emails, maybe you have never tried to email? Maybe you would like to shop online? There is no commitment to come every week, although under usual circumstances certain days can be busier than others.
You can register at any time during the year.
